1. Work

    Fifteen years of iOS apps.

Newest first. As you scroll, the phone turns into the one each app shipped on, all the way back to an iPhone 3GS. Somewhere in the middle it becomes a print, from the years I spent taking photos instead of writing code.

    Polarsteps

Staff Engineer · Plan pillar captain

I joined in January 2021 as the only iOS engineer. Five years later there are fourteen of us, the app is split into more than forty Swift packages, and I lead the Plan pillar. Nobody has been on the iOS team longer.

    40+
    • Split the app into 40+ Swift packages. Fewer merge conflicts, teams shipping in parallel, and tests per module.
    • Built the iOS team, from just me to fourteen engineers.
    • Lead the Plan pillar, the part of the app where people plan their trips.
    • Was there while Polarsteps grew from 1M to 25M travellers. That one was the whole company.

    Side projects

    Built in my spare time

Verneda en familia is a guide for a family week in the Val d’Aran: 18 walks with realistic driving times and a plan B for when little legs or the weather give up. Games is a set of puzzle games for ages 4 to 99. The first one, Moonsteps, has you building paths so two astronauts can meet. No ads, no tracking, no accounts.

    Garçon Coffee

    Solo iOS engineer

An app that teaches you to order coffee like a local in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France: what each drink looks like, what goes in it, and how to ask for it. I built the iOS app on my own in SwiftUI; Rob Diaz did the design and the website.

    Javi Lorbada Photography

    Founder and photographer

In 2017 I quit my job and travelled for eight months: Nepal, Jordan, Chile, India, Australia, New Zealand and a few more. The photos turned into a small business with media kits for tourism brands, stories for Exposure, a print shop and two exhibitions in Madrid.

    • Lonely Planet Pathfinder in 2017 and 2018.
    • 14 Exposure Staff Picks, and a few Behance gallery features.
    • Worked with Travellers Autobarn in New Zealand and tourism companies in Nepal and India.
    • Exhibited at Sala Siroco, Madrid, in 2019.

    The Mobile Company

    Mobile Software Developer

Two and a half years of iOS and Android apps for Dutch companies: OHRA, ANWB, XS4ALL, a PostNL app for printing photo books, Cabster for booking taxis (iOS and Android), and My Stress Coach, an iPad course on handling stress. I moved the company from SVN to Git and looked after builds and releases.

My first mobile job. I started as a junior and ended up the main developer of the company’s ad SDKs for iOS and Android, serving ads for a lot of media brands. I also worked on the first iPhone apps of El País, Sport, Cinco Días and AS, and a few magazines.
